The late afternoon sun painted the soccer field in hues of gold and orange. Liam lay stretched out on the grass, his arms behind his head, watching the clouds drift lazily across the sky. He closed his eyes, inhaling the sweet scent of freshly cut grass. He’d just finished a grueling practice, but his body felt loose and relaxed.

He hadn't worried about the team cuts. He knew he'd made the team. He'd been playing since he was a kid. He was good. Coach Riley had asked him to come in. He probably just wanted to congratulate him.

He finally stood up, his muscles springing to life with a satisfying stretch. He dusted himself off and ambled toward the coach's office, his pace unhurried and confident.
